Developers Linux Mint have announced a shift to a longer development cycle. The next major release, Linux Mint 23, is now expected only by the end of 2026., and the project intends to abandon the previous more frequent release schedule to focus more on development of new features rather than testing and packaging releases.
At the same time, the project also reported another significant change: Linux Mint plans to use the same installer as LMDE, which means live-installer. However, the final scheme for future releases has not yet been approved—the team is still deciding what the new cycle will be, whether intermediate versions will remain, and if alpha releases will appear.
