The Fedora Project is considering the introduction of a Verified Participant status, which will highlight developers who have contributed to the project and deserve certain privileges, such as the ability to participate in decision-making. The main reason for the proposed changes is the uncertainty about who can participate in community voting.
Obtaining the 'Fedora Verified' status will allow participation in voting for governing councils and the ability to nominate oneself for leadership positions involved in decision-making (Fedora Council, FESCo, Mindshare Committee, EPEL Steering Committee). Additionally, verified participants may be granted access to additional project resources and educational programs, such as training courses conducted by Red Hat.
To obtain the 'Fedora Verified' status, a participant must be involved in the project for at least two Fedora Linux release cycles (6-12 months), have a significant contribution (such as coding, maintaining packages, preparing documentation, design, bug fixing, or providing support), earn a positive reputation within the community, and not act against the Fedora Code of Conduct.
Until May 5, the project is conducting a survey on the feasibility of introducing this special status. The survey addresses topics such as the method of confirmation (recommendations or a special committee), assessing different types of contributions (whether to evaluate coding equally with related activities like design, organizing events, support, and activism), participant requirements, and the necessity of re-verification after 12 months of inactivity.
