Tails 7.7

On April 23, 2026, the Tails project announced the release of a new version of its privacy-focused Linux distribution – Tails 7.7.

Key Changes:

• Detection of obsolete Secure Boot certificates: Microsoft has begun replacing Secure Boot certificates issued as far back as 2011. Their validity expires in June 2026. The new version of Tails has implemented a notification: the system will alert the user if the computer's firmware (UEFI/BIOS) contains old certificates and needs updating.
• The Tor Browser has been updated to version 15.0.10.
• The Thunderbird mail client has been updated to version 140.9.1.
• A permissions issue has been fixed – the /root directory is now readable only by the root user.

Automatic updates are available for users of Tails 7.0 and later versions.
