The Linux kernel 7.1, which is expected to be released in mid-June, includes changes that enable the use of real-time mode (PREEMPT_RT) on 32-bit ARM processors. Previously, support for PREEMPT_RT was available for x86 and x86-64 architectures, ARM64, RISC-V, and LoongArch.
Currently, among the patches from the rt-linux project that have not yet been integrated into the main kernel, remain:
- Writing to sysfs /sys/kernel/realtime as an indicator that the system is operating in real-time mode.
- A number of fixes specific to the i915 driver.
- The ability to use real-time mode on the PowerPC architecture.
