On April 28th, after almost two months of development, version 2.11.0 "The EDR Viewer" was released — a cross-platform program for viewing high dynamic range (HDR) images — for those who care about colors.
Features of TEV:
- Blazing Speed – instant launch, loading hundreds of images in seconds.
- Accuracy – support for HDR and color profiles (ICC, CICP, etc.). Displaying HDR on all supported operating systems.
- Versatility – support for numerous file formats and their specific features: enhancement maps, auxiliary channels, animations, as well as metadata beyond EXIF and XMP.
- Detailed Analysis – histograms, tone maps, error metrics, etc., in any color space.
Supported image formats: EXR, JPEG XL, JPEG, JPEG 2000, PNG, APNG, PFM, PAM, PNM, PBM, PGM, PPM, QOI, DDS (Windows only), WEBP, TIFF, DNG, AVIF, HEIC, BMP, ICO, CUR, HDR, GIF, PIC, PSD, TGA, RAW, and various camera-specific RAW formats.
The project is written in C++ (C++23 standard) and distributed under the GNU GPL 3.0 license.
The GUI uses a proprietary fork a library NanoGUI (with a 5-year delay).
Changes:
- Buttons have been added for individual channel switching of R, G, B, and A.
- An additional option "Perceptual Soft Clipping" has been added to the HDR submenu. This provides a more pleasant image in cases where the monitor's capabilities do not meet the HDR content requirements, although it reduces color accuracy. This option is useful when using tev for viewing photos instead of a tool for their analysis.
- Various minor performance improvements have been made.
- Bugs have been fixed.
