Telegram received a major update, almost entirely dedicated to AI and automation. The messenger now features a guest mode for bots, the ability for bots to communicate with each other, chat automation tools, and a search engine for over 100 million emoji and stickers. Telegram also updated its polls and moderation tools.
The main new feature is the so-called guest mode for bots. AI bots can now be summoned directly in any personal or group chats by mentioning them with @username in a message. The bot can then respond in the same chat: for example, by searching for information, generating text or images, verifying information, or performing other tasks. Telegram emphasizes that these bots only have access to the messages in which they were mentioned and are not able to see other conversations.
Another important change concerns interactions between bots. Telegram now allows bots to respond to other bots, opening the way to creating entire chains of autonomous AI agents and automating workflows. For example, one bot could collect data, a second analyze it, and a third publish the results in the chatāall without human intervention.
The developers have also improved the display of bot responses. Messages can now be displayed gradually, as the text is generated, similar to how it's implemented in modern AI chats. Telegram notes that thanks to Bot API updates, responses now appear faster and feature new animations.
Telegram also introduced a chat automation feature. Users can connect a bot to their profile and allow it to reply to messages on their behalf. You can also flexibly configure which chats the bot has access toāfor example, only new conversations or conversations with strangers. The setting is located in the "Chat Automation" section.
Telegram has also expanded the capabilities of its built-in AI text editor. Now, users can create custom styles for the AI āāmessage editor by defining a set of instructions for text formatting. These styles can be saved and shared via a link. The company believes this feature will be useful for both communities with local memes and teams that need to maintain a consistent style across posts.
Another notable innovation is expanded search for emojis and stickers. Telegram claims that users now have access to over 100 million community-created stickers and emojis. Search is available in 36 languages, and AI models powered by the Cocoon network are used for automatic image tagging and indexing.
The update also affected the polling system. Group and channel administrators now have access to interactive voting statistics with graphs showing votes over time. However, this feature only works for polls with more than 100 votes. Furthermore, it's now possible to restrict participation in pollsāfor example, by restricting voting to channel subscribers or users from certain countries.
Minor changes include the ability to send scheduled messages without sound notifications and new moderation tools. Group administrators can now delete reactions from individual users, or, if necessary, all reactions from a specific member.
In addition to new features, Telegram announced more than 200 fixes and minor improvements across all versions of the app.
