The release of the email client has taken place Thunderbird 151.0, developed by the Mozilla community. The release is available for Linux, Windows, and macOS; the system requirements for Linux indicate the need for GTK+ 3.14 or later. The release was published on May 19, 2026.
The main change in this release is the enhanced support for OAuth and Exchange scenarios. Thunderbird 151.0 now allows logging into Thundermail via OAuth with automatic account setup, and for EWS accounts, it is now possible to override OAuth provider settings. This can be useful in corporate configurations where non-standard authorization parameters or custom Microsoft Exchange settings are used.
User changes also include the ability to sort tasks by creation or modification date. Additionally, developers have reinstated the check for Thunderbird as the default application upon launching the program. In OpenPGP handling, the behavior of signed emails has changed: the OpenPGP public key is no longer attached by default to messages that are only signed but not encrypted.
The release includes a large set of fixes:
- crashes when processing message headers, at startup, when receiving new emails, and in the spam filter have been resolved;
- keyboard accessibility for calendar tabs has been fixed;
- a macOS bug that caused multiple copies to be created when dragging attachments from Thunderbird has been fixed;
- it is again possible to cancel sending messages to newsgroups;
- the display of the received time for some IMAP emails has been corrected, where the current time was previously shown instead of the actual date;
- the search result counter in messages and the ordering issue, where older irrelevant emails could appear above new exact matches, have been fixed;
- formatting issues when replying to highlighted HTML text have been corrected;
- multipart/related attachments are now saved correctly when editing or forwarding messages;
- Account Hub issues have been eliminated, including password prompts after OAuth login, resetting automatically found settings during manual editing, and opening the wrong account from encryption and signing links;
- the update of virtual folders for filtered POP3 messages has been fixed;
- all-day tasks, task context menu, and the ‘Current Tasks’ view have been improved.
- Visual and UX improvements have been made.
