After almost two years since the release of the last stable version, the OutWiker 4.0 note-taking application has been released. The application's feature is that notes are stored as directories with text files; arbitrary files can be attached to each note. The program allows writing notes using various notations: HTML, wiki, Markdown (if the appropriate plugin is installed). Plugins can also be added to enable the placing of formulas in LaTeX format and to insert code blocks with syntax highlighting for various programming languages. The program is written in Python (with a wxPython interface), distributed under the GPLv3 license, and is available in builds for Linux (snap and flatpak) and Windows.
Changes in version 4.0:
- A new implementation of the note and tab tree has been proposed. Tabs can now be arranged in multiple rows.
- The ability to change the order of notes using the mouse and zoom the note tree by rotating the mouse wheel has been implemented.
- Options for changing the color and size of fonts in the note tree have been added.
- New icons have been added in the note tree to indicate that a note has been bookmarked or opened in read-only mode.
- A new plugin has been added that marks notes modified today with a color or additional icon.
- Customizable appearance settings for tabs and the interface have been added.
- A new interface for selecting labels for pages has been implemented.
- The ability to resize icons in the note tree and buttons on the toolbar has been added.
