Key changes in Flatpak 1.18.0:
Support for /dev/kfd via DRI permissions — Flatpak can now grant applications access to the AMD Kernel Fusion Driver. This expands the sandbox capabilities for applications utilizing GPU computing on AMD without introducing a separate new type of permission.
Improved flatpak update output — the update command now provides more detailed reasons for failures, simplifying the diagnosis of situations where updating an application, runtime, or remote repository has not been successful.
Enhancements to flatpak-coredumpctl — improvements have been made to error handling and output formatting of the utility. It is used to parse coredump files related to Flatpak applications, so the change is beneficial for debugging crashes.
Faster integration launch with Fish shell — the start time for shell integration for Fish shell users has been optimized. The change is minor but reduces overhead when working in the terminal.

Return values fixed and usage of deprecated GTimeVal removed — the deprecated API has been replaced with g_get_real_time(), which cleans up the codebase and reduces the risk of issues when building with new versions of GLib.
Unused-result warning suppressed in tests — the fix does not change the behavior for users but makes the test suite cleaner and more user-friendly for maintainers.
The release of Flatpak 1.18.0 took place on June 8, 2026. As usual, most users will not need to manually compile the new version: the update will appear in the distribution repositories after being built by the maintainers.
