The developers of the Linux distribution Peppermint OS, built on the Debian GNU/Linux package base and offering a desktop environment based on Xfce and the Thunar file manager, announced a switch to using XLibre, a fork of the X.Org Server, by default. XLibre will be utilized in the next update of the Peppermint OS ISO images, for which experimental builds have been offered for testing prior to publication.
In the foreseeable future, Peppermint OS plans to remain on the X11 stack, as the Xfce desktop environment aims to continue full support for X11. According to the developers of Peppermint OS, the XLibre project is well-suited for users who prefer to use X11 instead of Wayland, as it continues the work of fixing bugs, maintenance, cleaning, and modernizing the original codebase of the X.Org Server.
