The non-profit organization Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation, overseeing the development of the Rocky Linux distribution, has announced the creation of the OpenCourant project, which will continue the development of the open code base of the OpenRadioss platform after its transition to a proprietary product. The project's code will continue to be developed under the APGLv3 license by the community and managed by the non-profit foundation, independent of individual vendors. Developers who were involved in the work on OpenRadioss prior to its closure are invited to participate in the fork.
The OpenRadioss project code is written in Fortran and was made public in 2022. A few days ago, Siemens removed the OpenRadioss repository from GitHub, disabled the project's website, and urged users to switch to the proprietary product Simcenter Radioss. OpenRadioss is intended for solving problems in continuum mechanics, such as assessing the strength of engineering structures in highly nonlinear tasks involving large plastic deformations of the medium being studied. The code is primarily written in Fortran and supports operation in Linux and Windows. The project addresses challenges in metal forming and sheet stamping, as well as simulating rapid processes and fluid and gas mechanics.
