The Ext4 file system is set to remove the data=journal mode

The Linux kernel 7.3, which is set to be released on October 19, includes a change that classifies the Ext4 filesystem mounting option "data=journal" as deprecated technology. Support for this mounting option is planned to be discontinued in 2028.

The "data=journal" option implements full journaling, where not only metadata but actual data is logged, providing high resilience in case of failures, but complicating code maintenance and significantly reducing performance compared to the "data=ordered" and "data=writeback" modes. Additionally, this option is incompatible with certain features, such as delayed block allocation (delalloc) and direct I/O, hindering the implementation of new functionality in Ext4.
