Release of the Strata 1.0 file manager, developed for Omarchy Linux

The release of the Strata 1.0 file manager has been published, developed specifically for the Omarchy Linux distribution, which raised around $23 million for development. The project is not tied to Omarchy Linux and can operate in any other distributions. The graphical interface is formed using the GTK4 library and is designed to work in environments based on Wayland. Special attention is paid to keyboard navigation, security, and high performance. The code is written in Rust and is distributed under the MIT license.

Three navigation modes for the file system are provided: Miller columns, icon grid, and sorted list. In the Miller columns mode,
as you navigate through the file system hierarchy, each new level of nesting opens in a new vertical column to the right of the current one. For simultaneous work with different parts of the file system, tabs and the ability to split the panel into sections are provided.

In the right part of the interface, there is a preview area that allows you to view code, images, videos, HTML pages, and documents without opening a new window, as well as listen to audio files. The handlers invoked during preview run in a separate process, isolated using
Bubblewrap (with no network access, limited resources, and read-only access). Video display utilizes hardware acceleration with the involvement of the GPU.

Seamless navigation through archive contents is available, and network resources (smb, ftp, sftp, WebDAV) can be accessed as virtual file systems. The application supports themes, localization in different languages, context menus specific to various file types, decoration, navigation history, output filtering, recursive and indexed file name searching, and batch file deletion. The interface does not get blocked during long-running operations, for instance, you can cancel the download while waiting to display the contents of very large directories. You can connect custom scripts to invoke additional actions on files and directories from context menus.

During testing with a very large number of files, Strata showed the lowest CPU resource consumption. Test results for navigating through 100,000 files:
