The LiberNT project is developing a ReactOS fork aimed at compatibility with Windows 11

As part of the LiberNT project, a fork of the ReactOS operating system has been created, aimed at achieving compatibility with applications and drivers for Windows 11 24H2, styling its appearance to match modern Windows versions, and supporting 64-bit hardware platforms, including systems based on ARM64, PowerPC, and RISC-V 64 architectures. A distinctive feature of the fork is the active use of AI tools during development. LiberNT's own developments are distributed under the GPLv3 license, while the code borrowed from ReactOS continues to be provided under the GPLv2+ license. Main boot builds are formed for x86_64 and ARM64 systems, with experimental builds published for PowerPC and RISC-V 64 (Banana Pi BPI-F3).

Among the project's achievements:

  • Implementation of support for operation on Raspberry Pi 3 and Raspberry Pi 5 ARM boards, including drivers for GPU, sound subsystem, and network adapter.
  • Utilization of a new memory management system NVS, which, according to developers, operates faster than the version from ReactOS.
  • Support for running Windows applications built for x86 architecture on ARM64 architecture systems (using the FEX emulator).
  • More modern graphic drivers using the WDDM driver architecture and supporting hardware acceleration for OpenGL. New drivers are currently available for Raspberry Pi 5 and 3 boards and are being implemented for Intel and AMD GPUs.
  • A new stack for storage systems and USB, including new drivers for NVMe devices, USB 3.0, SD cards, networking devices, and game controllers (supporting PlayStation 5 DualSense, PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge, and Xbox Series X|S). A new driver for the NTFS file system.
