The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation (Ministry of Communications) reports that free television channels will be available even in areas of our country that are outside the coverage of terrestrial broadcasting.
It's worth reminding that a large-scale project is currently underway in Russia to transition to digital television broadcasting. Approximately 98.5% of the population of the Russian Federation is already covered by digital terrestrial broadcasting. However, the remaining 1.5% of citizens, or about 800 thousand households, live in localities where receiving a terrestrial TV signal is impossible or limited.
“Residents of those areas that are outside the coverage zone of digital terrestrial television have the right to watch 20 federal channels for free using satellite television,” the Ministry of Communications stated.
To receive the twenty free channels, a set of subscriber equipment needs to be purchased — a satellite dish and a receiver. Such a set, under the federal program for the transition to digital broadcasting, costs about 4,500 rubles, while its market price can reach 12,000 rubles.
“This preferential price is temporary; it has been set only for the transition to digital broadcasting. After June 3 (the third and final wave of analog TV signal shutdown), the price for satellite equipment will be determined by the market,” the ministry emphasizes.
