PowerShell is an extensible automation tool from Microsoft with open-source code.
This week, Microsoft announced the next version of PowerShell Core.
Contrary to all expectations, the next version will be PowerShell 7, not PowerShell Core 6.3. This indicates significant changes in the project's development as Microsoft takes another important step towards replacing the built-in PowerShell 5.1 in Windows with the cross-platform PowerShell Core.
According to Microsoft, the release will be available around May 2019 and will come soon after the launch of .NET Core 3.0.
