Earlier this year, Intel introduced one of its most unusual and expensive desktop processors — the Core i9-9990XE. The novelty is not only notable for its specifications, which we will recall below, but also for its distribution method: Intel sells this processor at closed auctions to a limited number of desktop computer manufacturers. However, the well-known store CaseKing.de decided to offer the Core i9-9990XE as a standalone product.
The German store, specializing in high-performance computers and components, today began retail sales of the Core i9-9990XE processor. Unique in its kind, this novelty is priced at a significant €2999. At the time of writing this news, the processor is still in stock and available for order. Naturally, the new product is offered in a Tray version, meaning without a cooling system and most likely without the attractive factory packaging.
Let’s recall that the Core i9-9990XE processor is made in an LGA 2066 package and is designed for use in motherboards with the Intel X299 chipset. This chip features 14 cores with the capability of 28 threads. A key feature of the processor is its clock frequency: up to 5.1 GHz in Boost mode for a single core, and up to 5.0 GHz for all cores. The base frequency is 4.0 GHz. Such high frequencies have led to an increase in TDP to a whole 255W. For comparison, the 18-core Core i9-9980XE has a TDP of 'only' 165W.
Note that the Core i9-9990XE is currently the most expensive Intel Core processor and one of the most expensive processors for desktop PCs in general. The recommended price for its 18-core counterpart, the Core i9-9980XE, is $1979, while in the same German store, it can be purchased for €2149. The 28-core Xeon W-3175X, also intended for desktop systems but of a slightly different class, is sold at CaseKing for €3999.
