first release candidate of the next significant release of Debian 10 "Buster". Currently 146 critical errors blocking the release (there were 316 a month ago, 577 two months ago, at the time of freeze in Debian 9 - 275, in Debian 8 - 350, Debian 7 - 650). The final Debian 10 release is expected in the summer.
Compared to the alpha release introduces the following changes:
- Support for verified boot (UEFI Secure Boot) has been added for the amd64 architecture. To ensure the operation of Secure Boot, the Shim bootloader, signed with a digital signature from Microsoft (shim-signed), is used in conjunction with signing the kernel and the grub bootloader (grub-efi-amd64-signed) with the project’s own certificate (shim acts as a layer for the distribution to use its own keys). Unlike previous builds, a signed working certificate has been used, which can be utilized without manipulations to add a test certificate;
- Improved handling of media sets, including enhanced support for Debian Edu builds;
- Support for Hedo MobiLine braille displays has been added;
- The transition to LUKS2 disk encryption format has been implemented in cryptsetup (previously LUKS was used);
- The boot splash screen and theme (futureprototype) have been updated;
- Improvements have been made related to ensuring reproducible builds;
- A dark theme has been added for the submenu and grub (theme=dark). A hotkey ‘d’ has been added to enable it;
- The transmission of the kernel parameter BOOTIF for already installed systems has been discontinued;
- The ability to use multiple consoles during installation has been added;
- GPT partitions are used by default for armhf/efi;
- Images for Novena and Banana Pi M2 Berry boards (armhf) have been added;
- Support for Rock64, Banana Pi M2 Berry, Pine A64 LTS, Olimex A64 Teres-I, Raspberry Pi 1, Pi Zero, and Pi 3 boards has been added;
- The main modules for paravirtualization mode have been moved from {hyperv,virtio}-modules to the kernel-image module. Drivers from {hyperv,virtio}-modules have been moved to {fb,input,nic,scsi}-modules.
