The project has been transferred under the auspices of the Linux Foundation by Zend Technologies and Rogue Wave Software, which made significant contributions to its development. The Linux Foundation is seen as a neutral ground for the further development of Zend Framework, helping to attract new participants to its development. The name change is motivated by the desire to eliminate the association with the commercial brand Zend in favor of positioning the framework as a community-driven project.
Technical decisions in the new project will be overseen by a Technical Steering Committee (TSC), formed from members of the Zend Framework Community Review Team. Legal, organizational, and financial matters will be addressed by a Governing Board, which will include representatives from the TSC and project companies. Development will take place on GitHub. The process of transitioning the project to the Linux Foundation is expected to complete in the third or fourth quarter of this year.
