A new release of the NixOS distribution is here. Key features of NixOS include the 'purely functional' package manager Nix and its own unified configuration system.
Notable changes:
- The default Python 3 interpreter is now CPython 3.7;
- the Pantheon desktop environment, developed by the developers, has been added; , positioned as a fast, open, and privacy-respecting alternative to Windows and macOS. The project's primary focus is on a quality design aimed at creating a user-friendly system that consumes minimal resources and ensures high startup speeds. Users are offered the Pantheon desktop environment.;
- the Kubernetes module has undergone extensive refactoring;
- 35 new modules have been added;
- support for nodejs version 6 has ended;
- Wayland compositor Sway has been updated to version 1.0;
- shell fish has been updated to version 3.0.
Ready installation images are available in a version with the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment and in a lightweight console version (without a pre-installed desktop environment). Images for VirtualBox, Amazon EC2, and Microsoft Azure are also available.
