According to network sources, last week, thousands of documents containing confidential information belonging to the Mexican embassy in Guatemala were made publicly available. A total of over 4800 important documents related to the activities of diplomats and personal data of Mexican citizens were stolen.
The theft of the documents is attributed to a hacker identified on Twitter as @0x55Taylor. He decided to post the stolen documents online after all attempts to contact the Mexican embassy were ignored by the diplomats. Ultimately, the files were removed from public access by the owner of the cloud storage where the hacker had placed them. However, specialists managed to review some of the documents and confirmed their authenticity.
It is also known that the hacker was able to obtain confidential data by discovering a vulnerability in the protection server, on which they were stored. After downloading the files, he found, among other things, scans of passports of Mexican citizens, visas, and other important documents, some of which belonged to diplomats. Reportedly, @0x55Taylor initially tried to establish contact with Mexican diplomats but received no response from them. The leak of personal data onto the Internet could lead to unpleasant consequences related to the disclosure of confidential information of individuals whose documents were stolen.
