Network sources report that Mozilla has made a decision regarding the future of the Firefox browser for Android and its successor, Fenix. According to recently published documents, developers will stop releasing major updates for the old browser after Firefox 68 is launched. This update is expected to be released in July this year. After that, the browser will only receive security updates and bug fixes. Furthermore, Firefox 68 for Android will become a browser with extended support. This will allow developers to minimize the efforts required for maintaining the outdated browser.
Fenix will replace the familiar Firefox, but user migration will not occur until the new browser is fully ready. When this happens, all users of the outdated Firefox will be automatically transferred to the new browser.
At this time, it is unclear when the developer intends to discontinue support for the mobile version of Firefox. Most likely, security updates and bug fixes will be released until mid-2020, when the new browser Fenix will replace Firefox 68.
