Apache Foundation on completing the integration of its infrastructure with GitHub and migrating all of its git services to GitHub. Initially, two version control systems were offered for Apache project development: the centralized version control system Subversion and the decentralized system Git.
Since 2014, GitHub has been mirrors of Apache repositories that are available in read-only mode. The repositories on GitHub are now classified as primary and can be used for submitting and reviewing changes. Apache's own git services have been transitioned to operate as backup mirrors.
Under the auspices of the Apache Foundation, more than 350 projects are being developed, with a total active codebase exceeding 200 million lines, and the accumulated change archive over 20 years includes more than a billion lines of code, covering over three million commits. Using GitHub instead of its own Git infrastructure will simplify project work and allow many new developers to use familiar tools for submitting changes, discussing, and reviewing code, as well as facilitate interaction with developers from other projects.
