Based on a conducted study, NetMarketShare has published data regarding the global distribution of desktop operating systems. The report states that the market share of Windows 10 in April 2019 continued to grow gradually, reaching 44.10%, whereas this figure was 43.62% in March.
Despite the gradual increase in the share of Windows 10, its main competitor remains Windows 7, which has lost very little during the reporting period. If in March the share of Windows 7 was 36.52%, in April it decreased to 36.43%. The trend in the distribution of operating systems shows that despite all of Microsoft's efforts, users are not rushing to switch to Windows 10.
This situation is not satisfactory for Microsoft, so the company is trying to encourage users to switch to Windows 10 sooner. Over the past few years, the developer has made various attempts to nudge users to upgrade from Windows 7 to a later version. For instance, not long ago, users received that the support for the operating system is coming to an end and it is worth considering a transition to a more modern platform.
The NetMarketShare study also examined other operating systems, whose shares have remained virtually unchanged over the year. Windows 8.1 ranks third in popularity, with a share of 4.22%. Following it is Mac OS X 10.13 with a 2% share.
