The release manager of the lightweight desktop environment XFCE, Simon Steinbeiss, announced the planned schedule for the preliminary and final releases of XFCE version 4.14 in the project's mailing list. The development team will adhere to the traditional version release model: three pre-releases will be followed by a final stable build. The schedule looks as follows:
May 19: 4.14-pre1
June 30: 4.14-pre2
July 28: 4.14-pre3 (if it is not needed, then 4.14-final will be presented on this day)
August 11: 4.14-final
If we believe the brief task plan for the 4.14 release, everything is already ready: the environment has been completely rewritten in GTK3 while maintaining compatibility with old xfwm4 themes, rendering through GdkGC has been replaced with Cairo, and XInput2 support has been added.
Those who want to test the current builds can run xfce 4.14 from a Docker container.Feedback is welcomed!
