Google developers have introduced a new version of ‘smart’ glasses called Glass Enterprise Edition 2. Compared to the model, the new version features more powerful hardware and an updated software platform.
The device operates on the Qualcomm , which the developer positions as the world's first extended reality platform. As a result, not only has battery life significantly improved, but overall performance has also increased. The design of the new model is based on a durable Smith Optics frame, giving the device the appearance of regular glasses. This means that Glass Enterprise Edition 2 is considerably less bulky compared to competitors like Microsoft HoloLens or Magic Leap.
The software component is based on the Android platform. This means that developing applications for these glasses will be significantly easier. Like the previous model, the new glasses are equipped with a small projector that enables the projection of virtual images. The glasses include a built-in 8 MP camera, which can be used for recording or live streaming video from a first-person perspective. Autonomous operation is ensured by a battery with a capacity of 820 mAh. To recharge the consumed energy, a USB Type-C interface is provided.
The price of Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 is $999. For some clients, the price may vary based on the level of collaboration with Google. Currently, it is known that the gadget will not be available for retail sales and will only be accessible to business segment representatives.
