On May 21, in the Antergos distribution blog, the creators' team announced the discontinuation of the project. According to the developers, they had very little time left to support Antergos over the past few months, and leaving it in such a semi-abandoned state would be disrespectful to the user community. They didn’t delay the decision since the project’s code is in working condition, and anyone interested can currently utilize everything they find useful.
In light of this sad news, Antergos users should not worry about the functionality of their systems. New packages from Arch Linux will continue to be delivered in the usual way, and an update will soon appear in Antergos’s own repositories that will disable them and remove all distribution-specific software. Some packages are already available in AUR, so users will be able to update from there. Ultimately, installing Antergos will simply turn into a regular Arch Linux install.
Forum and wiki will continue to operate for about three more months, after which they will also be disabled.
The developers of Antergos thank everyone who used the project over the past five years and believe that during this time they achieved their initial goal: to make Arch Linux more accessible to a wider audience and to organize a friendly community around it.
According to the project statistics, since 2014, the distribution images have been downloaded almost a million times. As of now, Antergos ranks 18th on the DistroWatch website.
