On May 22, the new version of the openSUSE Leap 15.1 distribution was released.
In the new version, the graphics stack has been completely updated. Although this release uses kernel version 4.12, it has been backported with support for graphics hardware relevant to kernel 4.19 (including improved support for the AMD Vega chipset).
Starting with Leap 15.1, Network Manager will be used by default for both laptops and desktops. In previous versions of the distribution, Network Manager was the default only when installed on laptops. However, for server installations, the standard option remains Wicked, the advanced network configuration system for openSUSE.
Changes have also affected YaST: updates to system service management, Firewalld configuration, an improved disk partitioning editor, and enhanced support for HiDPI.
Software versions included in this release:
- KDE Plasma 5.12 and KDE Applications 18.12.3;
- GNOME 3.26;
- systemd version 234;
- LibreOffice 6.1.3;
- CUPS 2.2.7.
