The new Krita 4.2 release is out — the world's first free editor with HDR support. In addition to enhancing stability, this release has added many new features.
Key changes and new features:
- HDR support on Windows 10.
- Improved support for graphic tablets across all OSs.
- Enhanced support for multi-monitor setups.
- Improved monitoring of memory consumption.
- Possibility of cancellation operation 'Move'.
- New features in the 'Selection' tool: the ability to move, rotate, and transform selections independently. You can edit anchor points depending on how the selection was made, allowing for rounded corners, for example.
- New 'Sharpness' adjustment features. The 'Sharpness' parameter, which adjusts the threshold filter for the current brush tip, now allows you to control this threshold with pressure, aiding in creating bristle brushes from any pixel brush.
- The layer dock now features a switch that allows changing the size of layer thumbnails to make them larger or smaller. The size of the layer thumbnail is retained between sessions.
- Improved performance brush performance.
- Enhanced digital palette docker.
- Enhanced image preview docker: the ability to quickly rotate and flip the canvas directly from the docker. The docker preview window now retains the correct aspect ratio and does not stretch when some layers are hidden.
- New Python animation API.
- Customizable file backups.
- New blending modes that allow for stunning and interesting effects.
- New noise generator with the ability to dynamically add noise to the document and create seamless noise.
Unfortunately, Linux does not yet support HDR, but Intel engineers have promised to fix this issue soon — then HDR support in Krita will also be available on Linux.
