Not great news for those using the Canary or Dev version of the Microsoft Edge browser based on Chromium. It has been reported that the web browser has issues functioning correctly with YouTube. Instead of the current version, an outdated visual version of the service will be displayed.
The site itself will inform users that it's advisable to switch to Google Chrome to access the latest information. The irony is that the Redmond browser is based on Chromium. This move by Google is quite expected, considering the popularity of Chrome in the market. Whether this will trigger an antitrust review remains to be seen. Regardless, the search giant clearly intends to maintain its current standing.
Recall that something similar has previously with a number of Google services. In particular, there were issues with online document editors and the Hangouts Meet messaging system. The company explained this by citing a testing status that prevented the browser from being whitelisted in Google Docs. The funniest part is that the original Edge is on that list.
Meanwhile, Chrome developers are actively elements from earlier versions of Edge based on Chromium.
