Release of cryptographic library Sodium 1.0.18

Available Release of the open-source cryptographic library Sodium 1.0.18, which is API compatible with the NaCl (Networking and Cryptography library) and provides functions for establishing secure network communication, hashing, generating pseudo-random numbers, working with digital signatures, and encryption using authenticated public and symmetric (shared-key) keys. The Sodium API is designed for simplicity and offers the most secure options, encryption and hashing methods by default. The library code is distributed is under the free ISC license.

Key innovations:

  • Introduced a new target platform WebAssembly/WASI (an interface WASI for using WebAssembly outside the browser);
  • On systems that support AVX2 instructions, performance of core hashing operations is increased by approximately 10%;
  • Support for building with Visual Studio 2019 has been added;
  • New functions core_ed25519_from_hash() and core_ed25519_random() have been implemented to reflect a hash to an edwards25519 point or obtain a random edwards25519 point;
  • A function crypto_core_ed25519_scalar_mul() has been added for multiplying scalar*scalar (mod L);
  • Support for an ordered group of prime numbers Ristretto, necessary for compatibility with wasm-crypto;
  • Utilizes the system call getentropy() on systems that support it;
  • Support for the NativeClient technology has been discontinued, with development has been put into operation. shifting towards WebAssembly;
  • Compiler options '-ftree-vectorize' and '-ftree-slp-vectorize' have been utilized during building.
