The non-profit organization "Russian Quality System" (Roskachestvo) has identified the best mobile applications that help preschool children learn to read.
These are educational programs for Android and iOS operating systems. The quality of the applications was assessed based on eleven criteria, most of which pertain to safety.
In particular, experts examined available parental control features, requests for any personal data and permissions, the security of data transmission and storage, as well as the presence of undesirable modules.
Additionally, attention was paid to the presence of advertising banners and the option to disable them. It was also assessed which of the examined applications include user instructions.
It is reported that the ranking includes a total of sixteen applications — eight for Android devices and eight for iOS. A list of these is presented in the illustration below.
"Most of the examined applications have in-app purchases that provide access to additional lessons or fully unlock the app's functionality. However, the applications do not offer or impose in-app purchases for expedited or easier lesson completion (for example, for hints) and do not feature purchases aimed at obtaining game resources or character upgrades," notes Roskachestvo.
