After about 3 months of development the release of the platform for building decentralized social networks . The project provides a communication server that can be integrated with web publishing systems, equipped with a transparent identification system and access control tools in decentralized Fediverse networks. The project's code is written in PHP and JavaScript and is licensed under the MIT License.
Hubzilla supports a unified authentication system to function as a social network, forums, discussion groups, Wiki, article publishing systems, and websites. It also includes a data storage solution with WebDAV support and event handling with CalDAV support.
Federated interaction is based on its own protocol , which implements the concept of WebMTA for content delivery over the WWW in decentralized networks and offers a range of unique features, including transparent end-to-end authentication via 'Nomadic Identity' within the Zot network, as well as a cloning function to ensure fully identical entry points and user data sets across different nodes of the network. It supports communication with other Fediverse networks using the ActivityPub, Diaspora, DFRN, and OStatus protocols.
The most significant changes in the new version includes:
- A new 'Calendar' app that combines previously independent functions for event support and CalDAV in Hubzilla.
- The 'Reply to Comment' feature that implements branching responses in discussions while maintaining the traditional flat display style of Hubzilla.
- The ability to select the storage for generated image thumbnails between the database and disk storage. A utility has been introduced to transfer data between them.
- Improved support for interaction via the ActivityPub protocol with other networks, including content relay from Friendica and Mastodon.
