On June 5, a new version of the distribution was introduced - Zorin OS 15. This distribution is aimed at novice users accustomed to working in Windows.
The distribution is available in several editions - core (slightly reduced functionality, comes with two layouts - windows and touch, fewer pre-installed programs, available for free download) and ultimate (comes with six layouts - macOS, windows, touch, windows classic, Gnome 3, and Ubuntu, includes a lot of games and other software. Price - 39 euros).
What's new:
- The Zorin Connect component has been added, based on GSConnect and KDE Connect, along with a mobile app to link the desktop with the mobile phone. This app allows displaying smartphone notifications on the desktop, viewing photos from the phone, replying to SMS, and more.
- The desktop, which is by default a heavily customized Gnome, has been updated to version 3.30 with performance optimizations to enhance interface responsiveness. An updated theme has been applied, available in six color variants and supporting both dark and light modes.
- The option for automatic dark theme activation at night has been implemented.
- An option for adaptive wallpaper selection has been introduced, depending on the brightness and colors of the environment.
- A night light mode has been added.
- A special layout for the desktop with increased spacing has been added, which is more convenient for touch screens and gesture controls.
- The interface for system settings has been redesigned.
- Support for installing self-contained packages in Flatpak format from the FlatHub repository has been built in.
Plus a couple of minor improvements, such as:
- Support for colored Emoji has been added. The system font has been changed to Inter.
- An experimental session based on Wayland has been introduced.
- The Live images now include proprietary NVIDIA drivers.
- The Evolution email client has been enabled with Microsoft Exchange integration support.
