The release of Firefox 68 is expected on July 9, to include the new add-ons manager (about:addons) by default, which is completely using HTML/JavaScript and standard web technologies. The new interface for managing add-ons has been developed as part of the initiative to eliminate browser components based on XUL and XBL. To evaluate the new interface before Firefox 68 is released, the option "extensions.htmlaboutaddons.enabled" can be enabled in about:config. Additionally, an HTML version of the about:config page has been rewritten.
In the new interface, individual buttons for managing add-on activation have been replaced by a context menu. For each add-on in the form of tabs, users can view a full description, change settings, and manage permissions without leaving the main add-ons list page. Disabled add-ons are now clearly separated from active ones and listed in a separate section. Both light and dark themes are supported.
Furthermore, a new section of recommended add-ons for installation has been added, with its content selected based on installed add-ons, settings, and user activity statistics. Among the new features is also a new button for reporting issues with add-ons to Mozilla, such as identifying malicious activity, experiencing display problems on websites due to an add-on, discrepancies with claimed functionality, the appearance of an add-on without user action, or stability issues.
