Almost three years after the significant previous branch was formed the release of the distribution . The project is developing through the efforts of the community after Mandriva S.A. transferred the management of the project to the non-profit organization "OpenMandriva Association". The release of OpenMandriva Lx 4 is notable for its transition to the package manager , command-line tools and the graphical package management interface Dnfdragora. Previously, the project used a separately developed branch , the urpmi tools, and the GUI rpmdrake. RPMv4 is supported by Red Hat and is used in distributions such as Fedora, RHEL, openSUSE, and SUSE. The branch was developed by third-party enthusiasts and has been stagnant for many years—the last stable release was formed in 2010, after which development halted. In contrast to RPMv5, the RPMv4 project is actively developed and maintained, providing a more comprehensive set of tools for managing packages and repositories. The transition to RPMv4 will also eliminate the dirty hacks and auxiliary Perl scripts currently used in OpenMandriva.

After installation, all unnecessary language packages that do not match the selected languages are removed. A check for installation in a VirtualBox environment has been implemented — if real hardware is used, auxiliary packages for VirtualBox are removed.
- Ports for aarch64 (Raspberry Pi 3 and DragonBoard 410c) and armv7hnl architectures have been prepared. A port for the RISC-V architecture is under development and is not yet ready for release;
- Additional builds specifically optimized for AMD processors (Ryzen, ThreadRipper, EPYC) have been formed.
