At the beginning of this month, information emerged that a feature for chatting with nearby people is being tested in the closed beta version of the Telegram messenger for the iOS mobile platform. Now, network sources report that Telegram developers are finishing the testing phase of this new feature, and it will soon be available to users of the standard version of the popular messenger.
In addition to the ability to message nearby people, users will be able to join thematic groups tied to specific locations. Currently, the number of geolocation chats is steadily increasing. Users within a distance of 100 meters to several kilometers will be able to join these groups.
To be included in the list of geo-chats, the group administrator must specify a specific location in the settings. After saving the changes, the created chat will move to the geo-chat section and receive a public status, allowing nearby users to connect. Users joining the chat through a link will be able to see its location as specified by the administrator in the chat description.
The geo-chat feature also displays a list of people who are in close proximity to the user who has entered the corresponding section. Other users entering the geo-chat section at that moment will be able to see you, as well as other individuals browsing the list of public conversations. It is worth noting that with the introduction of this new feature, privacy and anonymity will be preserved. For another user to see you nearby, you must personally enter the geo-chats section; if you do not, your location will not be disclosed to others.
