Mail.ru Group is reportedly implementing a new user identification mechanism for its email service, according to RBC.
This involves the use of one-time passwords, which will be sent via SMS or through push notifications appearing on the user's mobile device.
It is expected that the new system will enhance security. One-time passwords will be valid for a limited time and for a single authentication only. This means that it will be impossible to crack such a code and gain unauthorized access to the email account.
"Often, email acts as a 'key' to all of the user's other services, so protecting the email inbox is critically important. In the long run, this innovation will significantly strengthen email security, since if there is no password, it cannot be lost or cracked," said representatives from Mail.ru Group.
It is also noted that in the future, Mail.ru Group may completely abandon traditional passwords. New identification methods will be introduced, such as fingerprint recognition and facial scanning.
