Delta Amplon family expands — the manufacturer has introduced a new series of devices with a power range of 5-20 kVA.

Delta Amplon RT uninterruptible power supplies are characterized by high efficiency and compact size. Previously, this family offered only relatively low-power models, but the new RT series features single-phase and three-phase devices with power up to 20 kVA. The manufacturer positions them for use in uninterruptible power supply systems for small machine rooms and server rooms, to protect medical and telecommunications equipment, as well as to provide additional protection for critical equipment in large facilities. data centersAmplon family devices are widely used in small and medium enterprises, healthcare institutions, and companies in the financial and telecommunications sectors.
Model Range and Topology
In the new series, Delta has released three UPS models: there is also the Amplon R/RT with 1/2/3 kVA, which we will not discuss in this review. We focus on the single-phase Amplon RT available in 5, 6, 8, or 10 kVA (200-240 V) and the three-phase Amplon RT available in 15 or 20 kVA (380–415 V). Both models are built on a double conversion topology, with a power factor of one. Single-phase devices are available to customers in configurations with standard and extended autonomy, while three-phase devices come in 3:1 (three-phase input, single-phase output) and 3:3 (three-phase input, three-phase output) configurations, which can be modified using busbars.
Design and Configurations
Delta Amplon RT monoblock UPS systems are designed for floor installation or mounting in a 19-inch rack. Single-phase models with standard backup time are equipped with built-in batteries and occupy 4 (5/6 kVA) or 5 (8/10 kVA) units in the rack. They also come with a power distribution block (PDB) and a maintenance bypass switch (MBB) as standard. Configurations with extended backup time occupy 2 units in height and require a connection to an external battery cabinet (EBC) of 2 or 3 units depending on the type of batteries. There is only one network input in all single-phase models. The device efficiency is 95.5% in normal mode (with double conversion enabled) and 99% in economical mode. Three-phase models occupy 2 units in a cabinet or rack, while their battery cabinets require an additional 2, 3, or 6 units. Users can choose configurations with one or two network inputs, and the device efficiency stands at 96.5% in normal mode and 99% in economical mode. All UPSs are equipped with an LCD display, which in three-phase models allows for output configuration settings. The devices easily integrate into popular rack sizes.
Batteries
The RT series introduces standard external compact (2U) battery cabinets (EBC) with lithium-ion batteries, available for both three-phase and single-phase models. Additionally, customers can purchase cabinets with lead-acid batteries (VRLA). To ensure unification, all Amplon RT models use the same EBCs with flexible configurations, allowing for cost optimization when purchasing the system, scaling backup time over a wide range, and simplifying inventory management. VRLA battery groups are mounted in the cabinet using plastic enclosures, eliminating the possibility of electrolyte leakage. Batteries can be replaced individually without the need to replace the entire group and without shutting down the UPS, and the EBC connects using a plug-and-play connector.
Parallel operation
To increase power and redundancy according to the N+1 scheme, up to four Delta Amplon RT UPS units can be connected in parallel (in the single-phase line, only models with extended runtime support connection). With this setup, clients also have access to system configurations with shared batteries, which help reduce the space occupied by equipment and lessen the load on building structures.
Security and Management
Delta Amplon RT allows for the connection of loads based on priority, efficiently powering both active and reactive loads. They stepwise regulate the cooling fan speeds, predict their lifespan, and timely signal for the replacement of a faulty fan. Thanks to intelligent charge-discharge algorithms, battery life is extended, and built-in diagnostic and battery aging detection systems enable timely replacements. The graphical LCD display provides staff access to all management and monitoring functions. USB and RS-232 ports are used for computer connection, and there is also an RS-485 port for data exchange via the ModBus protocol or communication with the cabinet on lithium-ion batteries. The MINI slot allows for the installation of extension cards. The UPS is accompanied by proprietary software for management and monitoring, and the devices easily integrate with third-party engineering infrastructure management solutions.
Summary
Looking at the new uninterruptible power supplies without real-world operating experience, it's difficult to draw serious conclusions; however, at first glance, the update of the popular Delta Amplon family seems successful. The manufacturer has significantly increased the power of the devices and transformed the purely single-phase product line into a three-phase one, without sacrificing its main advantage — compact size and high power density. These are the junior models among Delta's rack-mounted double conversion solutions, but in terms of scalability, they match more expensive products and will certainly find their clients in Russia.
