Recently, the media reported that the Canadian corporation Corel is acquiring Parallels, a 'developer with Russian roots'. The announcement of the deal caused a stir in both foreign and domestic press. In this context, it's always better to draw facts from the primary source. Below is a short interview with Yakov Zubarev, the CEO of Parallels.

Why is Parallels interested in this deal, and what positive aspects does the company see in it?
— Parallels and Corel are a great match. We share leading positions in the market, a common vision for future activities, and a passion for innovation. Given Corel's scale and the company's plans for additional investments in Parallels' personnel and products, we believe this was an excellent choice for the clients, employees, partners, and shareholders of Parallels.
Is Corel planning to expand its VDI product and solution offerings, or is this simply a financial acquisition?
— The acquisition of Parallels has proven to be both strategically and financially beneficial for Corel. With innovations in software, a constant increase in customers and subscribers, and consistently high profitability, Parallels is a strategically attractive company. Corel has been closely monitoring Parallels’ products and innovative solutions for many years. Parallels was the first company to allow Windows to run on Mac without rebooting; the first to create excellent user interaction on mobile devices for remote access to desktop applications with Parallels Access; and the first to provide similar convenience to business users in the server product Remote Application Server.
“Parallels is a globally recognized brand and a leader in its market segment. The Parallels brand is known to tens of millions of Mac users, as well as PC users through solutions like Parallels Toolbox for Windows and Parallels Access.
For many years, we have recommended that users who want to run CorelDRAW for Windows use Parallels Desktop for Mac.
During our discussions with the Parallels team, we were impressed by the talented group of people who create, sell, and support their exceptional quality products for businesses and end users. Corel and Parallels develop and sell some of the most dynamic, reliable, and beloved software brands for Windows and Mac. We share not only market leadership and a commitment to innovation but much more. Corel and Parallels operate in the same markets, employ similar strategies, and speak the same language. Our business models will complement each other well. Although it is still early to discuss what this means for our future products, we expect Parallels' leadership and deep market knowledge to unlock new opportunities for our product lines! Patrick Nichols, CEO of Corel.
Will there be any changes to Parallels' business and products in 2019?
— Parallels is now part of the Corel corporation, providing new exciting opportunities. Parallels will continue to operate as an independent division within the holding company, so there will be no fundamental changes for its team, partners, and customers. Corel's plans for significant investments in Parallels will allow us to accelerate our work on innovative software solutions that will benefit companies and end users worldwide. While I can't share details yet, I can tell you that we are looking forward to the release of a new Parallels software solution in 2019, as well as further enhancements to the features and performance of our already well-known products.
What will happen to the Parallels brand?
— The Parallels brand and its key software products, such as Parallels Desktop and Parallels RAS, will remain unchanged.
What are Corel & Parallels' plans for the near future? What are the main agenda items for 2019?
Our number one priority is to continue providing the highest quality products and services for our clients as we integrate our business. Since Parallels is an independent business unit within Corel, this process becomes straightforward as we learn from each other's best practices, share technologies, and leverage our strengths for further development to benefit our customers. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our users once again for their trust and choice of our products.
Taking this opportunity, I wish us all success and prosperity in the coming New Year! May your wishes come true and your dreams be fulfilled!
