In the latest release of the Telegram messenger animated stickers have been added to the main versions of the desktop and mobile applications. There are both ready-made sets and the option to create your own.
It is noted that the stickers weigh only 20â30 KB, allowing them to load almost instantly and work even on slow internet connections. The animation frame rate is 60 fps, although it can be limited to 30. A new file format is used to create the stickers.
âWe launched stickers back in January 2015. Today we present a new format â animated stickers. We asked ourselves: can animated stickers be of higher quality than static ones while consuming less traffic? The answer turned out to be positive,â Telegram stated.
Currently, several sticker sets can be downloaded, which are available at a specially created . There is a special bot for creating your own sets, as well as  instructions on how to create them.
It is noted that the social network VKontakte has had animated stickers for a long time. Similar solutions have appeared in Instagram as well. However, in Telegram, you need to update the app to the latest version to enable this feature. You may need to do this manually if for any reason the program does not update automatically.
