Microsoft will delete Xbox and other accounts after two years of inactivity.

Microsoft changed the account usage rules. Developers have reduced the allowed inactivity period from five years to two. This means that if no one uses a company's account for two years, it will be deleted.

An account will be protected from deletion if it has purchases, unused funds, or an active subscription to any service. The account will also remain valid if it is part of a family account, where a minor child can use it. It will be closed once the child reaches adulthood according to the laws of their region.

Journalists speculated that this is the company’s way of expanding the list of potential account names. This is done to avoid issues for Xbox Game Pass subscribers and the streaming gaming service xCloud. The changes will take effect from August 30.

Testing of Xbox Game Pass on PC began on June 10. To install it, the latest Windows 10 update is required. The subscription price during the beta testing period is $4.99. After the full launch, it will rise to $9.99. As for xCloud, its launch there will be is scheduled for October 2019.
