Developers of Linux Mint the beta version of build 19.2 codenamed "Tina". The release is available with graphical environments Xfce, MATE, and Cinnamon. It is noted that the new beta still relies on the package set of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, which means system support until 2023.
The 19.2 version features an improved update manager that now displays supported kernel options and simplifies the update process for this critical system component. In addition, all graphical environments have been updated. The main desktop Cinnamon received version 4.2 and optimization for the Muffin window manager, significantly reduced memory usage, and other enhancements. MATE and Xfce have also been updated to the latest versions.
In addition to desktop optimization, Cinnamon has introduced the ability to detect application duplicates. If two programs have the same name, additional information will be shown in the menu, along with precise identification of the applications. The same applies to Flatpak application packages.
Finally, the ability to customize the scrollbar width in pixels has been added. It's a small feature, but nice. The stable release of Linux Mint 19.2 "Tina" is expected to be available at the end of this month. The beta version can be already downloaded now.
It should be noted that while Linux Mint is a child distribution of Ubuntu, in certain scenarios, the "child" performs better than the original distribution. However, it's better not to install the beta version, but to wait for the release.
