Microsoft is working on a new global media control for its Chromium-based Edge browser. Reportedly, the control, activated by clicking the 'Media' button in the address bar, not just the list of audio or video files currently playing, but also other active media sessions which can then be switched and managed individually.
So far, this is an experimental feature that is still in the commit stage, and it's unclear whether it will make it to release. However, the function looks promising as it will provide more flexible playback control.
