Playtonic Games has released a new trailer for the platformer Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, introducing a system of 'alternative level construction.'
The game will feature a total of 20 levels, but during their journey, our heroes will discover secrets and solve puzzles that dynamically alter each location, effectively doubling their total number to 40. 'Rebuild levels by connecting electricity, flooding them with water, or literally turning them upside down to unveil new challenges,' the creators stated.
For instance, the trailer shows levels freezing or being buffeted by strong winds that allow you to fly, or transforming into rainforests that introduce additional platform elements on the locations.
'Yooka and Laylee are back in a new hybrid adventure platformer!'—reads the project description. 'They will have to run, jump, and roll through numerous 2D levels, solve puzzles, and collect the entire royal bee swarm to confront Capital B in an unbelievable lair!' Development is underway for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair already has its own page, with the release planned for the fourth quarter of this year.
