Microsoft is continuing to develop the Cortana voice assistant in Windows 10. Although it may disappear from the OS, the corporation is already testing a new user interface for the app. The new build is already available for testers and supports text and voice commands.
It is reported that Cortana has become more "talkative," and it has been separated from the built-in search in Windows 10. The new application is positioned as a solution for business users. At the same time, the new Cortana app for Windows 10 supports most existing features, including search queries, conversations, app opening, list management, and more. Additionally, there is the ability to set reminders, activate alerts, and timers.
As stated by Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider Preview program, not all features from the previous version of Cortana are available in the beta version yet. However, developers plan to gradually add new features to the app.
Currently, it is available in Windows 10 build (18945) on the Fast Ring channel. It is expected that the new version will be released in the first half of 2020. Among other changes, there is support for light and dark themes, as well as new speech models.
It is also noted that the main market for voice assistants is shared by solutions from Google, Apple, and Amazon. The appearance of the updated Cortana may change the balance of power in the market and bring a new assistant to PCs.
