🥇Release of LibreOffice 6.3

The Document Foundation announced on the release of LibreOffice 6.3.

Writer

You can now set the background color for table cells in Writer from the Table toolbar.
Index/table of contents updates can now be undone, and the update does not clear the list of undo steps.
Improved copying of tables from Calc to existing Writer tables: only the visible cells in Calc are copied and pasted.
The page background now covers the entire sheet, not just inside the text boundaries as before.
Improved compatibility with Word in supporting top-to-bottom and left-to-right writing directions in table cells and text boxes.
An optional Form menu has been added, containing controls compatible with MS Office.
Significant work has been done to reduce the loading/saving time of text document files. A complete list of fixes here.
The exceptions list for the autocorrection of "Words with Two Capital Letters" is now used when changing case in the functions "Capitalize Each Sentence" and "Fix Random CAPS LOCK". This prevents automatic case changes in words like mRNA, iPhone, fMRI. The list has been renamed to "Words with Two Capital Letters or Lowercase Letter".

Calc

A new format for the currency Russian Ruble has been added. The sign ₽ (U+20BD) will be displayed instead of the word rub.
A new drop-down widget with functions has been added to the formula input line instead of the Sum button.
Users can now disable the additional dialog with search results.
A new checkbox has been added in the "Data > Statistics > Moving Average" dialog, which allows trimming the input range to the actual data before calculating the moving average. This checkbox is checked by default. Performance issues have also been addressed even when the checkbox is not checked.
The "Data > Statistics > Sampling" dialog has been redesigned.
The new function FOURIER() — for calculating the discrete Fourier transform. A separate dialog has been added in the menu Data > Statistics > Fourier Analysis.
Significant work has been done to reduce the loading/saving time of spreadsheet files. A complete list of fixes. here.

Impress/Draw

You can now drag multiple animation effects into the Sidebar at once to change their order.
Significant improvements in importing SmartArt objects in PPTX files

Base

The migration assistant for Firebird, previously available only in experimental mode, now allows users to migrate from their Base HSQLDB files by default.

Charts

The option to disable the legend label for series has been implemented
Added the ability to select a color palette in the chart color settings

Math

For alternative representation of vectors, a symbol attribute for harpoon/wideharpoon has been implemented, which combines the variable name with the 'harpoon' symbol (U+20D1), just like it currently does for the vect/widevec attribute

Core/Common

The LibreOffice TWAIN scanning module for Windows has been rewritten as a separate 32-bit executable file (twain32shim.exe). This will allow both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of LibreOffice to use the 32-bit Windows TWAIN component. And now, finally, LibreOffice x64 for Windows can utilize scanning.
The number of saved search queries in the Find and Replace dialog can be adjusted through expert settings
It is now possible to insert a narrow no-break space (U+202F) in text. This action has been assigned the key combination Shift+Alt+Space
A new 'Tip of the Day' dialog, which shows useful information once a day at the first launch. The dialog can be disabled
The 'What's New' panel, containing a link to the release notes upon the first launch of a new version of LibreOffice
Selecting a sentence (triple click) is now available for binding key combinations in the Settings dialog (by default, no combination is assigned)
If an unmodified document template is opened in an existing window, it will no longer overwrite with a new document. Instead, the new document will open in a new window
New functionality: Redaction (we're still thinking about how to translate this into Russian in the UI). Allows striking out confidential information in the document and producing a PDF document from which hidden information cannot be retrieved. Available from the menu 'Service > Redact'. Information can be hidden in black and white.

Help

New Help pages for programming macros in Python have been added
Help pages for some undocumented BASIC objects and functions have been added
BASIC and Python code fragments can now be copied to the clipboard with a mouse click for further use.
An online Help editor has been created.
The Calc functions CONCAT, TEXTJOIN, IFS, SWITCH have been documented.
Calc functions now include a reference to the LibreOffice release number in which they were implemented.

Filters

Improvements in the EMF+ export filter.
Support has been added for exporting to PDF/A-2 format, along with a corresponding interface improvement to select between PDF/A-1 or PDF/A-2.
Support for exporting spreadsheet templates to .xltx format has been added.
Support for exporting text document templates to .dotx format has been added.
Significant improvements have been made to the support for MS Excel pivot tables.
When exporting to PPTX, SmartArt objects are preserved for editing in PowerPoint.
Improvements when exporting to Tagged PDF.

User Interface

A new 'Compact Tabs' option is available in Writer, Calc, Impress, and Draw. Accessible from the View menu > User Interface.
A new 'Contextual One Line' option is ready for use in Writer and Draw. Accessible from the View menu > User Interface.
The Sifr icon theme has been radically updated.
The Karasa Jaga icon theme has been redesigned from size 22px to 24px.
Fonts in the LibreOffice installer dialog for Windows have been changed from Tahoma 8px to Segoe UI 9px, and the dialog width has also been modified.
The width of the Sidebar can now be adjusted through the expert option Office/UI/Sidebar/General/MaximumWidth.
Names for the Bullet List styles in the Writer Sidebar have been changed to be more user-friendly. The names now also include the marker that will be assigned to the first level of the list.
The dropdown control in the formula input panel of Calc has been changed to resolve some display issues.

LibreOffice Online

Improvements in administration, integration, and configuration have been made.
Improved speed for processing online documents.
Faster page loading.
Enhanced support for HiDPI displays.
Improvements in the mechanism and display when signing documents.
Improvements when working with charts.
Enhanced handling of selection and rotation of images in Writer Online.
MS Visio files can now be opened (read-only).
When creating an online document, users will be able to select a document template (if they have been created).
A fully functional conditional formatting management dialog is available in Calc Online.
In Impress Online, it is now possible to add headers and footers to slides.
The preview update in Impress Online has been significantly improved when changing selections or editing.
Formatting dialog boxes for characters, paragraphs, and slides are available in Impress Online.
And much more.

Localization

Dictionaries have been updated for the following languages: Afrikaans, Breton, Danish, English, Galician, Serbian, Spanish, Thai.
The thesaurus for the Slovenian language has been updated.

Removed / Deprecated features.

Support for Java 5 has been discontinued. The minimum version is now Java 6.
Support for GStreamer 0.10 is deprecated and will no longer be supported in the next version of LibreOffice 6.4. GStreamer 1.0 will continue to be supported.
The KDE4 VCL backend has been removed.
Personalization using Firefox themes has been removed due to API changes from Mozilla.

Compatibility with platforms.

Development of the KDE5 VCL backend continues.
Precompiled 32-bit rpm and deb packages for version 6.3 and later will not be provided. This does not mean you cannot build a 32-bit version from the LibreOffice source code. TDF is forced to conserve its modest resources. (The issue of continuing testing of 32-bit Linux builds was discussed in the mailing list, but I did not understand the conclusion reached.)
