Oracle Linux 7.7 distribution is available.

Oracle Corporation released release of the industrial distribution Oracle Linux 7.7, based on the package base Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.7. For unlimited downloads, but after free registration, is distributed an installation ISO image, sized 4.7 GB, prepared for x86_64 and ARM64 (aarch64) architectures. For Oracle Linux, it also is open provides unlimited and free access to the yum repository with binary package updates for bug fixes (errata) and security issues.

In addition to the kernel package from RHEL (3.10.0-1062), Oracle Linux includes released the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 5 (4.14.35-1902.3.2), which is offered by default. The source code for the kernel, including the breakdown into separate patches, is available in the public Git repository of Oracle. The kernel is positioned as an alternative to the standard kernel package provided in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and offers a range of enhancements the features, such as DTrace integration and improved Btrfs support. Apart from the kernel, Oracle Linux 7.7 is functionally similar to RHEL 7.7.

Among new features of Oracle Linux 7.7 (almost all of the listed changes are also characteristic of RHEL 7.7):

• The NetworkManager has added the ability to set routing rules by source address (policy routing) and support for VLAN filtering on network bridge interfaces;
• The versions of the NSS (Network Security Services) packages, scap-security-guide 0.1.43, shadow-utils 4.6, gcc-libraries 8.3.1, linuxptp 2.0, tuned 2.11, and chrony 3.4 have been updated. Python 3 packages with Python 3.6 interpreter have been added;
• Support for scanning the contents of Universal Base Image (UBI) containers and images for compliance with SCAP Security Guide security profiles has been added;
• Support for Btrfs declared obsolete in the RHEL kernel (to use Btrfs, UEK R4 and UEK R5 kernels should be utilized). Packages with MySQL have been removed, which should be loaded from a separate yum repository;
• The graphical installer has added definitions for enabling Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) mode in the system and displays a corresponding warning;
• The driver for NVMe/FC QLogic qla2xxxx has been updated;
• Experimental features have been proposed for testing in the UEK R5 kernel:
  • import and export of containers in Systemd,
  • layouts for creating storage as block devices and object storage for pNFS,
  • support for DAX (direct access to the filesystem bypassing page caching without using block device level) in ext4 and XFS,
  • support for OverlayFS,
  • HMM (Heterogeneous Memory Management) subsystem for using devices with their own memory management units,
  • No-IOMMU mode,
  • drivers for Cisco VIC InfiniBand and ibusnic_verbs,
  • support for SR-IOV (Single-Root I/O Virtualization) in the qlcnic driver,
  • TNC (Trusted Network Connect),
  • support for input/output using multiple queues (scsi-mq, Multi-queue) in SCSI,
  • a plugin for managing storage arrays through the libStorageMgmt API.
