A study conducted by ESET indicates that many users are careless about protecting their data. Meanwhile, such behavior can lead to serious problems.
It turned out that one in four respondents—23%—takes no action to protect their personal information. These respondents believe they have nothing to hide. However, personal photos, correspondence, and other information that falls into the hands of malicious actors can be used for targeted attacks and various fraud schemes.
At the same time, 17% of respondents take personal safety measures by deleting their search history. Another 15% cover their webcams so that hackers and intruders cannot spy on them.
The survey also revealed that 14% of users do not enter credit card information even on official websites. Approximately 11% of respondents regularly clear their message history.
ESET also notes that 7% of users store personal photos and videos in password-protected albums. Another 13% of respondents provide temporary email addresses when registering to avoid spam.
