The most significant legislative initiatives in recent years are related to the regulation of the internet space: the Yarovaya package and the so-called sovereign internet law. Currently, the digital environment is under close scrutiny from legislators and law enforcement. Russian legislation regulating internet activities is still being created and tested in practice. Control over the runet began in earnest in 2012 when Roskomnadzor gained its initial powers to oversee web resources.
Norms and requirements are emerging that companies and ordinary citizens must follow in their online activities.

Of course, one can gain knowledge about digital law independently by studying legislative developments and reading specialized publications in Russian and, in most cases, in English, but this can raise many questions that are difficult to resolve alone. Cyber Law School
From September 9 to 13, the Cyber Law School will be held in Moscow. This is a professional development course for lawyers in the area of digital law.
Participants will gain knowledge and practical skills on current topics in cyber law from leading industry experts, networking opportunities, and a state-certified qualification certificate upon completion of the school.
Training program:
- Features of the activities of information intermediaries (ISPs, hosting providers, search engines, social networks, aggregators, etc.);
- Intellectual rights on the Internet;
- Protection of honor, dignity, and business reputation online. Protection of privacy and personal data (152-FZ, GDPR);
- All about the taxation of Internet projects and online advertising;
- Legal aspects of cryptocurrencies, blockchain, smart contracts, and digital assets;
- Particularities of handling criminal cases related to the internet, digital evidence collection, and computer forensics.
The Cyber Law School is organized by and together with the School of Law . Upon completion of the training, certificates of professional development of state standard will be issued.
The school’s instructors are experts and theorists in digital law. They include practicing lawyers, university professors, representatives of digital companies, and members of commissions within government agencies dealing with the development of digital legislation. For example, one of the instructors is Mikhail Yakushev, a member of the Internet governance working group under the UN Secretary-General, who previously represented the Russian Federation in the G8 working group on legal issues.
The Internet is an environment where users interact while being in different jurisdictions. Our school’s curriculum takes this into account and includes the study of not only Russian but also foreign legislation in the sphere of Internet regulation. Lectures by experts will help understand how to act in accordance with this legislation, what risks may arise, and how a company can prepare for changes in the legal environment.
